You don’t have to join Costco or Sam’s club to find bargains. This place is amazing. But when “it’s gone, it’s gone” with “Aldi’s Finds”! Their dairy products are Cheap!! You can find Duck occasionally in the meat refrigerator. Cheeses, olives, wine, all the things you need to make a charcuterie board. At half then price if any other grocery store. You need to bring your own bags and have a quarter for the grocery cart(you will get it back.) silly people who think that they are above sho here have no idea how much they are missing and paying at other stores. Oh well🙄
I like this place in theory. The shipping carts are huge. Costco huge. I've, personally, never bought more than a handful of things at a time. You never know what is going to be on the shelves, but I guess that's why one goes. You never know what you are going to walk out with.
Plenty of food, etc. The prices are always low - 50 cents for bread as compared to Walmart, for example, where bread is about $1.35. The produce is always fresh, and the store is very clean. Remember to bring a quarter to use a cart (you get it back when you return the cart; sometimes people just give you their cart), and bring your own bags. If you forget bags, they do have bags you can buy - 2 or 3 types, and they currently cost between 10 and 99 cents. Parking is always easy, too.
We shop at ALDI for the low prices. ALDI has discount prices but doesn't feel like a discount store. It's kept really clean and well organized. You do need to use a quarter to use a cart, which can get annoying because I never carry change on me and sometimes the locking mechanism on the cart is broken.
Issues with Instacart pickup: We often order groceries for pickup through instacart. For the most part this works well, but when I've tried to use the feature on the instacart app to let the store now I am on my way so I dont have to wait when I get there, the employee told me that they almost gave my groceries to someone else, because they were just going to give my groceries to the next person who pulled up without even checking. They implied that it would have been my fault if they gave the groceries to someone else and told me not to use that feature anymore. If ALDI is going to offer the instacart pickup service then they need to adjust their process to align with the instructions given to the customer through the Instacart app. This is keeping me from giving ALDI 5 stars.
So glad that there’s an Aldi in Charlottesville now. I used to travel 30 mins out for it, and now it’s in our backyard. If you’ve never been to Aldi before, you should know upfront that their selection is limited (it’s mostly their own brands), you either have to pay for their reusable bags ($0.07-$0.13) or bring your own, and weekends are a super busy time.
With that out of the way, the selection and brands that they do have are quality. They have grocery essentials, so I recommend going there before you hit up Kroger, Harris Teeter, or any other store so that you can get items for cheaper items from Aldi and supplement what you couldn’t find at a larger chain store. They also have an Aldi Finds aisle with great stuff that changes every week - think gadgets, cookware, etc. It’s very organized and well-set-up, and the lines go quicker than you expect - they are very good at keeping the line moving.
Would highly recommend stopping by to determine if Aldi is for you.
Im a doordasher, your carts don’t like to unlock, it happens a lot as a customer. It’s not a big deal usually. As a dasher it’s incredibly frustrating, some locations including this one hardly ever have extra people on the floor to help or a way to request assistance without annoying the 1 cashier present. I waited, looked around and eventually declined the order and moved on because I couldn’t carry the items requested around the store in a hand cart or in my hands I needed a cart, lots of large drink boxes. Please fix these issues.
I always fine unique items in their season sections. They have a great selection of snacks and produce. Everything is reasonably priced
Customer service could be a lot better. You have to pay 25 cents for a shopping cart, and you pay around 30 cents for each paper shopping bag. There are no single-use plastic bags, and the lines are very long. Lines are very long, and there are no self-checkout lanes. Will not be shopping here in the future.
